ere are some ideas that will help spread the word about Visual Arts in YOUR School!
put up a bulletin board declaring March as Youth Art Month
have a school wide art show
have a district wide art show
have your principal mention YAM during announcements
have your principal read an appropriate art quote everyday or every week during the month
get endorsements signed by the principal, superintendent, and other officials and important community members
get a proclamation signed by the mayor
have students participate in the YAM flag design contest
contact local agencies (hospitals, restaurants, banks, offices, retail shops, fast food establishments) to display student work
arrange for student demonstrations in banks, stores, shopping centers
plan with the local senior citizens center to host the YAM flag design winners
hand out one page flyers with information about YAM and the benefits of art education
frame student-made work and present to mayors, legislators, etc.
have students create artwork and write about it, then mail to family, friends, administrators, etc.
send out student made postcards to everyone
contact your street department to hang student created YAM banners during the month of March
contact local billboard company about using YAM artwork
ask merchants to invite students to design newspaper ads
encourage students to wear primary, secondary colors, patterns etc. (tee & sweatshirts without artwork or words)
to be part of “wearable” art on different days of the week or month
student designed buttons
edible art
store windows painted by students
grocery bags designed by using student artwork (do not use water-based markers)
make specialty tags for the faculty to wear during the month of March
make cards for lunch trays for hospital patients, nursing homes, cafeterias, etc.
send letters home via students inviting parents (and /or other relatives) to hang their child’s art work in their place of business to honor YAM
collect quotes in support of art education from leading citizens
have the school and public library feature books on children’s art, art careers etc. during the month
have an art festival – designate a whole school day devoted to nothing but art activities
arrange for discussions, talks, films, etc.

create a an art game (trivia, name that artist, Art Jeopardy, etc) for your class or school to play during the month
create a calendar of art activities for each day of March, distribute to students and teachers
ask your technology department to scan your YAM flag design winners for computer screen savers
add YAM information to your school’s web page
arrange Family Fun Art workshops after school or evenings
and the list could go on and on and on……………..
